America's Political Parties Are Having An Identity Crisis

So here is an interesting takeaway:

The Democratic Party positions itself as the people's voice in government. They are responsive and progressive open in how they conduct their affairs and values.

The Republican Party is more conservative and hawkish believing that less government or weaker federal government is in the interest of citizens.

Now, the majority of voters in the Republican primary selected Donald Trump. He is the last person the party's leaders wanted, the established part of the party was not at all interested in putting forth an outsider as their candidate for the 2016 Presidential election.

The Democratic Party put forth Hillary Clinton a long time party wonk who was facing a challenge from an insurgent Bernie Sanders and emails now show that the party establishment was doing what they could to turn his challenge aside in favor of the chosen candidate and the voters.

That's irony.
